Festival Arte is organized by the City of Tampa’s Creative Industries Office and reflects the goals of Mayor Pam Iorio’s strategic initiatives and the Tampa/Hillsborough County Community Cultural Plan.
Producing Festival Arte is identified the City of The Arts Section of Mayor Iorio’s Strategic Plan that has been developed over the past four years. The Tampa/Hillsborough County Community Cultural Plan caps nine-months of community assessment and planning. It is being endorsed by the Tampa City Council and the Hillsborough County Commission.
Three key elements of the Cultural Plan are the development of cultural tourism, strengthening of local arts organizations, and linking arts and economic development efforts. Festival Arte is designed to address all three goals. Festival participants are all major arts organizations throughout the city and county (and neighboring counties). Festival participation drives audience development and brings extensive media and community exposure.
The festival also aims to attract cultural tourists from around the region and the state. Plans also include marketing to Latin American tourists. The Tampa Bay Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is a major partner in the promotion of Festival Arte.
In the economic development area, Festival Arte will play out against the backdrop of a major trade conference that brings 500 delegates to Tampa. Partners in supporting Arte 2007 are The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, the Tampa Bay Business Committee For The Arts, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and other professional organizations and chambers throughout Hillsborough County.
Festival Arte’s ultimate goal is to be recognize nationally and internationally as a major arts and performance festival.
